Rug Cleaning: Tips and Tricks

It may make sense to try some of the tried-and-true rug and cleaning techniques. It is true that there are times where professional cleaning will be necessary. However, there are many more affordable options. As a first step in carpet stain treatment, you need to act as fast as possible. The stain may or not be removed. Sometimes it’s better to let the substances dry completely before treating. Vacuuming the surface after dirt that has tracked in is a great way to remove it. By blotting it with a damp towel, you can remove the smaller dust particles in your Spotless Carpet.

It is important to act quickly when dealing with wet stains. The carpet can be discolored by many substances such as dyes or wine. Many carpets come with some stain resistance. However, water dissolution will be the most efficient way to remove stains. A good way to begin is by dissolving any spilled liquid and gently wiping away the excess. It is best to use a blotting method to move the stain inwards from the edges, instead of rubbing. If you use a strong carpet cleaner, it can cause damage to the fibers. This may require expensive repair work or even replacement.

A small amount of mild dishwashing detergent may help remove stains if only water fails to do so. You should gently rub the dishwashing liquid solution into your fabric before rinsing it with warm, running water. Don’t forget to completely rinse out and dry your clothing. As soap residue attracts and holds dirt, the stain will be more apparent. If the area is still stained, use a clean dry towel to blot it. A solution of two tablespoons (tbs.) ammonia to one cup warm water may be needed for stubborn stains. To remove stains that are stubborn, you can mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia with 1 cup warm water. After applying vinegar diluted with water, the ammonia can be neutralized. These household remedies may not be enough to get rid of the stain. A commercial stain remover should then be applied. Be careful, however. If these products are used incorrectly they may discolor your carpet or damage it permanently. It is usually a good idea to test a carpetcleaningproduct in a less noticeable area before pouring or spraying a cleaner directly on the stain.
